E-Trac

The E-Trac is a great turn on and go machine for the beginner with many capabilities and settings even for the most advanced users. I have only been using the machine for a few months and although I am not qualified to give a lot of information, I do feel I have some of the basics down that are worth sharing.
First thing I suggest is reading your Manual, read it from front to back and it is great to refer back to it the more you use your machine. Second most important thing is to buy Andy Sabish’s book, The Minelab Explorer and E-Trac Handbook.  I refer to this book on a daily basis and in my opinion it has taken several months of learning in the field the hard way out of the equation. Several people have also told me that the information on the Explorer series is updated with a lot of information they have not seen in his past books.
I use the High Trash mode when I am at a place with a lot of trash, which is often. I have used multi-tone since the beginning with deep on, fast recovery off and Auto Sensitivity. I have my Quick mask set to reject 27 and lower on the ferrous side and if I am hunting somewhere that is not trashy, I will hunt in Quick mask mode. I also use the Quick mask mode if I have an iffy signal when I am hunting in a regular mode. If I have a broken signal I will hit Quick mask and if  the signal jumps around by my 27 line (bottom right hand corner) it has been trash every time. When I first found this out from another hunter I was concerned that I had found iron that was giving me a questionable signal. I started wondering how well the quick mask worked then if I was getting iffy signals from deep iron, how would the machine handle a coin or desirable target next to Iron? I can not go into technical terms because I don’t have the knowledge how it works but it didn’t take me long to figure out it works well, I have opened up many holes with targets, including iron that I have discriminated out with a good target in the same hole.
Below I have added a basic guide on the FE and CO numbers that targets will produce. I have given the numbers from everything I have found but some is  from air testing. Although these may not be the same in your part of the country, I think they give a better representation than just air testing.
